I have a blog that has been sorely neglected since the news of John's sickness surfaced, and I know how much time and effort it takes to write something like this..clearly it comes from the heart. Most importantly, I loved reading the exchange that you and John had via email, and I can so hear my brother saying that he would "look forward to the start of the fight against this bastard." I spent the last three weeks of John's life with him..fighting the bastard. One of the most vivid moments came at 6:00 AM, the morning after he was admitted to ICU the first time...I had spent the night with him and we had been up all night the previous night wondering if he was going to make it through the night. Needless to say, I was tired...but at 6:00 AM, I heard a strong voice coming from his bed..."Layne, raise the shades - It is six o'clock and its time to kick cancer's ass!" Rarely do you have the chance to see goodness to the core in your sibling...and I thank God every day that I was allowed that opportunity. Each day without John is harder and harder right now..but reading posts like this are helping me and others to get through this awful experience. Thanks to you and the many others for championing my brother. I included a link to your post on my memorial email...if you send me your email address, I would love to forward a copy to you.
Layne Gambel
Laynegambel@gmail.comOnly in Louisiana ~ documenting the adventures we call Life!https://www.blogger.com/profile/14145200924247548717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68730239358084672.post-53179780022949878072012-09-03T20:40:07.376-07:002012-09-03T20:40:07.376-07:00Thanks for these words, Travis. Our loss is indeed great, and we must now rise to meet John's example with more and better work built atop his legacy, as well as supporting the fund.Fernando Perezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12945463674195535011noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68730239358084672.post-17379726478581489162012-09-02T14:37:46.863-07:002012-09-02T14:37:46.863-07:00What a nice tribute to a great man. While I did not know him it sounds like he was a blessing to many and I am sorry for the loss to his family and those of you who worked with and benefited from his great contributions.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03237406296431812733noreply@blogger.com
